# Markets

> Learn how Cibocom organizes commodity trading into structured markets where you discover listings, place bids, and track deals with your network.

Markets are the organizing layer of Cibocom. Each market represents a commodity category — such as beef, poultry, or seafood — and brings together all the trading activity related to that category in one place. Instead of managing fragmented email threads and phone calls, you work within a market to post listings, respond to bids, and see what your network is actively trading.

## What Is a Market

A market on Cibocom is a structured space dedicated to a single commodity category. Within a market, you can browse active buy and sell listings, submit bids, review recent deals, and track the overall trading pulse for that category. Markets give you context — you see not just your own activity, but the aggregated activity of every company you are connected to, all in one feed.

<Note>
  Markets on Cibocom are private. You only see listings, bids, and deal activity from companies within your network. Companies you are not connected to are not visible to you, and you are not visible to them.
</Note>

## Types of Markets

Cibocom covers the major categories of the global food commodity trade. Each market has its own listings feed and activity history.

## How to Find Relevant Markets

Navigate to **Markets** in the main sidebar to see the full list of available commodity categories. Use the search bar at the top of the Markets page to filter by name or keyword. Select any market to open its activity feed.

If you trade across multiple categories, you can mark markets as favourites — they will appear pinned at the top of your Markets list for quick access.

<Tip>
  Start with the one or two markets most relevant to your core business. Get comfortable posting listings and responding to bids there before expanding into adjacent categories.
</Tip>

## Market Activity

Every market has a live activity feed showing:

* **Active listings** — open buy and sell offers posted by companies in your network
* **Recent bids** — bid and counter-bid activity on listings you are party to
* **Closed deals** — completed transactions involving your network, visible for market context
* **Price trends** — indicative high, low, and average deal prices for the category over rolling time windows

The feed updates in real time. Reload is not required — new activity surfaces automatically as it occurs.

## Joining a Market

You are enrolled in markets that match the commodity categories listed on your company profile. To join an additional market, go to **Markets**, select the category, and choose **Join Market**. Your company profile is updated immediately and counterparties in that market become discoverable to you (and you to them) based on your connection status.

<Info>
  Joining a market does not automatically share your listings or activity with all participants. Visibility is always governed by your network connections. See [Network](/concepts/network) for details.
</Info>

## Market Notifications

Control how Cibocom alerts you to market activity from **Settings → Notifications → Markets**. You can configure notifications per market for:

* New listings matching saved search criteria
* New bids on your listings
* Counter-bids requiring your response
* Deal closures involving your company
* Price movement alerts when average deal prices shift beyond a threshold you set

Set notifications to **real-time** for markets where you are actively trading, and **daily digest** for markets you monitor at a lower frequency.
